What it is

What is Meydan Free Zone?

Meydan Free Zone (MFZ) is a Dubai free zone established in 2009 under the Meydan Free Zone Authority, headquartered at the Meydan Grandstand in Nad Al Sheba — roughly 15 minutes from Downtown Dubai. Built as a digital-first jurisdiction, it has become one of Dubai's most requested zones for solo founders, consultants, freelancers and e-commerce sellers: incorporation is fully remote, the base license includes a registered flexi-desk address, and companies are typically licensed within 1–5 business days.

Three things define Meydan:

  1. Dubai address, entry-level price. A zero-visa license runs from about AED 12,500 per year including the registered address — pricing that competes with IFZA head-on and undercuts every prestige Dubai zone, while the Nad Al Sheba location keeps "Dubai" on your letterhead.
  2. Genuinely digital. No physical office is required — the flexi-desk address in the base package satisfies licensing. Application, KYC, signing and issuance all run online, so shareholders never need to enter the UAE to incorporate, and a fast-track route can issue licenses in as little as a day.
  3. Flexible activity mix. Up to three activity groups on one license from a list of 2,500+ activities — and Meydan allows trading and consulting activities combined on the same license at no extra fee, a combination many zones surcharge or refuse.

Honest fit check

Is Meydan the right free zone for you?

Meydan hits the sweet spot for lean, digital businesses that want Dubai on the license without paying for infrastructure they won't use.

The zone we most often recommend for

  • Consultants and freelancers — management, marketing, IT, design, coaching: a professional license with a Dubai address, run from anywhere.
  • E-commerce sellers — marketplace and DTC sellers (Amazon.ae, Noon, Shopify) who need a UAE entity for payment gateways and marketplace onboarding; Meydan's e-commerce licensing and digital processes are built for exactly this.
  • Founders who need speed — when a client contract or platform application is waiting, a 1–5 day remote setup beats every facility-based zone.
  • Mixed-model businesses — selling products and services? Trading + consulting on one Meydan license, no surcharge.
  • Non-resident owners — incorporate, bank remotely where possible, and add a visa later only if you relocate.

Usually not the right choice if…

  • You move physical goods at volume. Meydan has no port, airport or warehousing of its own — importers and distributors belong at JAFZA (sea) or DAFZA (air), both VAT designated zones, which Meydan is not.
  • Your counterparties weigh jurisdiction heavily. Commodities desks, funds-adjacent firms and businesses selling to conservative corporates get more mileage from DMCC.
  • Every dirham counts and the address doesn't. Shams starts at roughly half the price with a Sharjah address.
  • Most revenue is onshore UAE. The usual free zone limits apply — consider mainland setup.

If Meydan isn't the fit, we'll say so and shortlist the zone that is — we work across 40+ zones.

Licenses

Meydan license types

Commercial License

Import, export, distribution and online sale of specified goods. The base for trading and e-commerce models.

Professional License

Consultancy and service activities: management, marketing, IT, design, training and similar.

E-commerce configuration

Commercial licensing shaped for online sellers: marketplace onboarding (Amazon.ae, Noon), payment-gateway applications and multi-channel selling. Ask us to match activities to the platforms you sell on — gateways check them.

Freelance route

A lightweight professional setup for individual practitioners who invoice under their own name.

Transparent pricing

Meydan license packages and 2026 pricing

Meydan prices its license in fixed steps by visa allocation, with the registered flexi-desk address included at every tier. Indicative 2026 figures:

Visa allocations01234–6
License (AED/yr, indicative)~12,500~14,370~16,220~18,070+~1,850 per further allocation
  • Each visa allocation adds ~AED 1,850 to the license; up to 6 allocations per license. A flexi-desk setup supports roughly 3 visas — larger quotas need a dedicated workspace upgrade.
  • The license includes up to 3 activity groups and the registered address; renewal runs at the same base pricing, subject to Meydan's current tariff.
  • Per-person visa costs are separate (next section), as is the establishment card.
  • Multi-year terms and promotions periodically discount these figures — we apply whatever is current to your quote.

Meydan Free Zone prices are configuration-based packages that change with promotions and multi-year terms. Figures shown are indicative in AED as of August 2026. Your Stevva quote states the exact current Meydan fee for your configuration, plus our professional fee — one fixed, all-inclusive number agreed before we start.

Worked example

Solo founder with residency: 1-visa license ~AED 14,370 + establishment card ~AED 2,000 + investor visa processed end to end ~AED 4,000–4,500 ≈ AED 20,500–21,000 in year one, plus health insurance. A zero-visa non-resident setup is simply the license: ~AED 12,500.

Visas

Meydan visa costs

Meydan visa costs stack on top of the license in clear per-person steps. Indicative figures:

ItemIndicative AEDNote
Establishment card~2,000Company immigration file; renews ~2,200 — one aggregator couldn't verify this item, so we confirm it in your quote
Employment visa (per person)~3,500Entry permit, stamping
Investor / partner visa (per person)~4,000
Medical + Emirates ID~450–850 + EID feesPer person; medical normal/VIP
All-in per person, realistic~4,500Mid-range including medical & EID
Dependent visa (spouse/child)~6,000Per person, sponsored by a visa holder

Dependents (spouse, children, and parents subject to conditions) can be sponsored once income thresholds are met, and the 180-day entry rule applies to every visa holder. Visas are typically 2-year.

Timeline

How long does Meydan company setup take?

A Meydan license typically issues within 1–5 business days of complete documents — among the fastest in the UAE, with a fast-track route that can issue in as little as a day for straightforward cases. The whole journey runs remotely; you only enter the UAE if you take a residence visa (medical and Emirates ID biometrics are in-person), which adds roughly 2–3 weeks.

Documents

Documents you need for a Meydan license

Individual shareholders / managers / directors

  • Colored, clear passport copy (valid 6+ months)
  • UAE entry stamp or residence visa copy, if applicable
  • Passport-size photo (white background)
  • Contact and address details; brief description of the business

Corporate shareholders

  • Certificate of incorporation, memorandum & articles of the parent
  • Certificate of incumbency / good standing (if applicable)
  • Board resolution approving the new company and appointing the authorized signatory
  • Passport documents for the authorized signatory

Good to know

  • Share capital is AED 100,000 declared — no deposit or proof of funds required.
  • Some activities need pre-approval or extra documents; we flag this at the quoting stage.
  • For e-commerce sellers: choose activities that match the platforms and products you'll actually sell — payment gateways and marketplaces check the license wording at onboarding.

The costs nobody shows you

Meydan renewal and ongoing costs

The advertised package is the year-one price. Budget the lifecycle:

  • Renewal — the license renews at the same base pricing (~AED 12,500 for a zero-visa license), subject to Meydan's current tariff; the establishment card renews (~AED 2,200) and visas renew on their own 2-year cycle. Start renewal at least 30 days before expiry — late renewal accrues fees and can complicate active visas.
  • Amendments — adding activities beyond your three groups, upgrading visa allocations past the flexi-desk ceiling, or changing shareholders carries per-change fees; we confirm current rates before filing.
  • Financial records — Meydan has not historically imposed the blanket audited-financials filing that DMCC, JAFZA and DAFZA require — but don't mistake that for a books-optional regime: UAE corporate tax requires financial statements from every company, and zone policies change. We keep your books filing-ready regardless.
  • Cancellation — formal license cancellation and visa cancellations carry fees; never simply abandon a license, as penalties accrue.
  • 180-day rule — visa holders must enter the UAE at least once every 180 days to keep residency valid.

As your registered agent, Stevva tracks renewal dates and files on time — renewals, amendments and cancellations are part of our ongoing service.

Tax

Corporate tax and VAT for Meydan companies

A Meydan company is not tax-exempt by default. The accurate 2026 position:

Corporate tax

Every Meydan company must register for UAE corporate tax and file annual returns. Free zone companies can access the 0% rate on qualifying income as a Qualifying Free Zone Person (QFZP) — subject to substance, transfer pricing and income-type conditions; otherwise the standard 9% applies above the threshold. For lean digital businesses the substance question deserves honest assessment before assuming 0% — a flexi-desk alone rarely settles it.

VAT

Mandatory registration once taxable supplies exceed AED 375,000/year (voluntary from AED 187,500). Meydan is not a designated zone, so normal UAE VAT rules apply — including to e-commerce sales, which have their own place-of-supply rules worth getting right from the first invoice.

Books

Corporate tax filings must be supported by financial statements — for marketplace sellers that means clean records across gateways, platforms and refunds, not a spreadsheet at year-end.

Stevva's tax and accounting arms handle corporate tax registration and filing — including QFZP assessment — VAT compliance including e-commerce place-of-supply, and bookkeeping built for multi-channel sellers.

Quick answers

Meydan Free Zone — frequently asked questions

How much does a Meydan Free Zone license cost in 2026?

A Meydan license starts at approximately AED 12,500 per year for a zero-visa package — and that price includes the registered flexi-desk address and up to three business activity groups. Visa allocations add about AED 1,850 each to the license (roughly AED 14,370 with 1 visa, AED 16,220 with 2, AED 18,070 with 3), with per-person visa processing separate. Meydan prices move with promotions, so Stevva quotes the exact current figure for your configuration.

What is the total first-year cost of a Meydan company with one visa?

Realistically around AED 20,500–22,000: the 1-visa license (~AED 14,370), the establishment card (~AED 2,000) and one residence visa processed end to end (~AED 4,000–4,500 including medical and Emirates ID), plus mandatory health insurance. A non-resident zero-visa setup is simply the license at ~AED 12,500.

How fast is Meydan company setup?

Among the fastest in the UAE: licenses typically issue within 1–5 business days of complete documents, with a fast-track route that can issue in as little as a day for straightforward cases. The entire process runs remotely — application, KYC and signing are digital — so many founders hold a Dubai license within the same week they decide.

Do I need an office for a Meydan license?

No. The base Meydan package includes a registered flexi-desk address that satisfies the licensing requirement, so a physical office is optional. Dedicated desks and offices are available as paid upgrades — and become relevant if you need more than roughly three visas, since larger visa quotas require dedicated workspace.

How many visas can I get with a Meydan license?

Up to six visa allocations per license, at about AED 1,850 each on the license price. A flexi-desk setup supports roughly three visas; beyond that you'll need a dedicated workspace upgrade. Each visa costs about AED 4,500 per person all-in (permit, medical, Emirates ID, stamping), visa holders can sponsor dependents (~AED 6,000 per dependent), and the 180-day entry rule applies.

Can I combine trading and consulting on one Meydan license?

Yes — and it's one of Meydan's genuine differentiators. Up to three activity groups from a 2,500+ activity list can sit on one license, and commercial (trading) and professional (consulting) activities can be combined at no additional fee. Many zones surcharge or refuse this mix; at Meydan an e-commerce seller who also consults runs one company instead of two.

Is Meydan good for e-commerce businesses?

Yes — it's one of the most popular UAE zones for online sellers. The licensing covers marketplace and direct-to-consumer models, the digital setup suits remote founders, and the Dubai address helps with payment-gateway and marketplace onboarding (Amazon.ae, Noon, Shopify payment providers). The detail that matters: your license activities must match what you actually sell, because gateways check them — we align this before you apply.

Where is Meydan Free Zone located?

At the Meydan Grandstand in Nad Al Sheba, Dubai — about 15 minutes from Downtown Dubai. Your company is Dubai-registered with a Dubai address, and residence visas issued through Meydan are Dubai visas.

Do I need to visit Dubai to set up a Meydan company?

No — incorporation is fully remote and documents are issued digitally. You only need to be in the UAE if you take a residence visa, for the medical test and Emirates ID biometrics, and visa holders must then enter the country at least once every 180 days to keep the visa valid.

Meydan vs IFZA — which should I choose?

They're the two closest competitors in Dubai's value tier, typically within a few hundred dirhams of each other (~AED 12,500 vs AED 12,900 at zero visas). Meydan's edge: the registered address is included, trading + consulting combine free, and issuance is fastest. IFZA's edge: a broader activity list and, under its current August 2026 promotion, one residence visa free for life plus fee waivers. Current promotions usually decide it — we quote both live, side by side.

Meydan vs Shams — which should I choose?

Shams starts at roughly half the price (from AED 5,750 vs ~AED 12,500) — so if the address doesn't matter commercially, Shams wins on cost. Meydan wins when "Dubai" on the license matters: for banking optics, client perception, payment-gateway onboarding or your own residence plans. Many e-commerce sellers and consultants judge the ~AED 6,000–7,000 annual difference worth it; many international-only founders don't.

Is Meydan a designated zone for VAT?

No. Meydan is a non-designated free zone, so normal UAE VAT rules apply to your supplies — including e-commerce sales, which follow their own place-of-supply rules. VAT registration becomes mandatory once taxable supplies exceed AED 375,000 in a 12-month period.

Do Meydan companies pay corporate tax?

Every Meydan company must register for UAE corporate tax and file annual returns. Qualifying Free Zone Persons can access the 0% rate on qualifying income if they meet substance and income conditions; otherwise 9% applies above AED 375,000 of taxable income. For lean flexi-desk businesses, whether real substance supports QFZP status deserves honest assessment — we do that as part of setup rather than assuming.

Does a Meydan company need an audit?

Meydan has not historically required audited financial statements to be filed with license renewal — unlike DMCC, JAFZA or DAFZA. But that isn't a books-optional regime: UAE corporate tax requires every company to maintain and file financial statements, and zone policies can change. We keep your books filing-ready either way.

What legal form is a Meydan company, and is there share capital?

A Meydan company incorporates as an LLC-FZ (free zone limited liability company) with a declared share capital of AED 100,000 — no deposit or proof of funds is required. Branches of existing companies can also register.

Can a Meydan company open a UAE bank account?

Yes — Meydan companies open UAE bank accounts routinely, and the Dubai registration helps. Banks assess substance regardless of zone: your activity, residency, expected flows and documentation. For lean digital businesses, a residence visa and clean activity-to-invoice alignment materially improve approval odds — Stevva prepares the bank file and supports the opening.
